This Three Little Pigs Strata is sooo simple, so delicious and so comforting. Everyone loved it! Perfect for anything from a holiday breakfast, breakfast for dinner, or brunch buffet to impress your guests.
We had family stay the night and they had never had a strata, so they were impressed with how moist and full of flavor a few simple ingredients were tossed together in no time and popped in the oven. I didn’t even make ahead the night before, but you certainly could do it up and place in the fridge overnight.
If you’ve never heard of a strata it’s just another name for breakfast casserole. Kind of like a french toast bake, like this Blueberry French Toast Casserole with Streusel Topping or this Caramel Apple French Toast Casserole. Except a strata is more on the savory side and french toast casserole is sweeter because you add sugar and vanilla. So we’re adding a little zing with the mustard. Feel free to play around with the ingredients, have some jalapenos if you like it spicy, you can totally do that. Kale or spinach is an awesome addition as well.
Beginner cooks, did your family think pigs would fly before you’d ever make a strata? Don’t fear, this Three Little Pigs strata is easy peasy! Look it even put a smile on my flying piggie!
This is great for a weekend morning, you might have some leftovers you want to use because this is so versatile you can swap out ingredients for what you have on hand. I decided to call it Three Little Pigs Strata because we had leftover ham, I already had breakfast sausage and some bacon that needed to get used and a half a big Italian loaf of bread so it was pretty much chop chop stir stir, bake and done.
What can you serve with this Three Little Pigs Strata?
- Hash browns or fried potatoes are almost a must with any breakfast or brunch. Buy frozen if you want things to go a bit quicker.
- Balance everything out with some fresh fruit.
Some tips:
- The drier your bread, the more of the egg mixture it will absorb. This is what gives your strata a more custard like texture, rather than bread swimming around in scrambled eggs.
